Alpine Adventure & Via Ferrata
The Mont Blanc alpine adventure week is an introduction to Via Ferrata’s and Glacier Trekking in the Mont Blanc range, a historic and amazing region of the Alps. Throughout this trip you will build on your existing mountaineering skills in a more adventurous arena. There is time to practice the fundamentals of mountaineering and the skills required for safe travel in the higher mountains (ice axe and crampons required). To enhance the “alpine experience” you will spend two nights in remote mountain huts.
Our varied programme will include traversing the Vallee Blanche and ascending to Col du Dome 3,564m) via the Conscrits hut for superb and unusual views of Mont Blanc. We will start of the week by following the Balcon du Mer de Glace up to the Couvercle hut. This is one of the most spectacular alpine trekking/via ferrata routes in the area. We will also try out a brand new, excellent Via Ferrata (including steep ladders and cables) above the village of Plain Joux.
We are partly using lifts to take us up the mountain quickly but we will also explore slightly more remote areas where there simply are no lifts and only foot access, which makes arrival at our destinations much more rewarding.
Offering an insight into the ‘Alpine Climbing Experience,’ this week will provide excellent preparation for the Chamonix Experience 6 Day Mont Blanc course and also give you a sound base for your own adventures in the Alps and elsewhere. The whole week is guided by an IFMGA/UIAGM qualified alpine guide and the client to guide ratio throughout the week is 1:6.
