Here is a short description of just a few examples of the off-piste on offer at each of the Chamonix ski areas:

Grand Montets: With almost 2000m vertical drop from the top station to the bottom, Grand Montets offers an incredible variety of quality off- piste skiing. From the infamous ‘Pas de Chevre’ for the more advanced skier to the amazingly easily accessible ‘Combe des Blanchots’ between the two main chair lifts and the Lavancher Bowl there are endless hours of fun to be had.

Le Brévent: Here you can really get away from groomed piste to truly mountainous terrain in just a few turns.  There is a great selection of superbly technical itineraries here including the ‘ENSA couloir’ and the ‘Bellin couloir’. For the novices there is great fun to be had on the ‘Hotel Slope’ and around the ‘col Cornu’ area.

La Flégère: This is a great area for new comers to off-piste skiing.  South facing with wide open slopes the ‘Crochues Bowl’ alone can offer hours of fun off piste skiing. The terrain is full of variety with gullies and rolls to keep you entertained. This side of the valley gives fantastic views of the Grand Jorasses and the Mt Blanc Massif.

Le Tour & Vallorcine: Over looking the Swiss border on one side and towards Chamonix on the other this area is brilliant for off-piste beginners. The south side has lovely rolling hills, a mellow introduction, while the back side offers fun runs through slightly steeper terrain. There are several great itineraries that take you down into Switzerland where you can sample the great chocolate and Valais wine while waiting for the bus back!

Courmayeur: An off-piste day in Italy is a real treat. From the Helbronner side there are brilliant runs for the advanced skier on the Toule glacier. The main Courmayeur ski station gives access to great runs down to Val Veny through beautiful larch forests. Longer runs are accessible from the Youla and Arpe lifts. You get great views of Mt. Blanc’s spectacular north face from here not to mention great coffee and food!**
