Vallee Blanche

View of the Vallee Blanche area from Aiguille du Tacul The Vallee Blanche is probably the best example of how Chamonix has so much more to offer when you are in the company of a mountain guide, especially when you want to explore the stunning wilderness and high mountain terrain of the Mont Blanc Range, of which the Vallee Blanche is a part. Here, navigation, crevasse danger and distance from assistance make taking a guide essential.

At 22km long with a vertical descent of over 2,500m, the Valley Blanche would stand out among the world’s classics on these facts alone. Add to this some of the most awe inspiring high mountain scenery, towering 4,000m peaks, including Mont Blanc, and tumbling glaciers, and you have arguably the best lift-accessible ski descent in the world.

Vallee Blanche ski with Chamonix Experience

Your Chamonix Experience guide will meet you at the bottom of the Aiguille du Midi cable car, the start of the day’s adventure and an experience in its own right, taking you up to 3,842m. Before the skiing starts you will be roped up to descend the narrow snow ridge to a wide col, where you can put your skis on.

There are several routes down, each varying in difficulty, but all equally stunning. Easiest is the classic route, well within the capabilities of a competent intermediate when the conditions are good. For better skiers there is a variety of more challenging routes. Your mountain guide will select a suitable option depending on the ability of the skiers in the group.

The Valley Blanche can present the entire range of off-piste conditions from deep powder to varying degrees of crust, and even hard pack. As such you should be at least a confident skier on red runs. You can join a group or book your own private mountain guide for the day. Normally we have groups departing every day during the season, snow and weather conditions permitting.
