Do an Avalanche Awareness Course!

What a great start to the season with all this snow and all this great off piste skiing!

Off piste skiing is allowed in most parts of the Alps and under each ones responsibility. It is a privilege to have this freedom but before getting too excited and heading out off piste you should have an understanding of the risks involved in skiing out of marked and controlled areas and know what to do in case of an avalanche.
We would like to encourage everybody who skis off piste to take an avalanche course in the beginning of every season.

Chamonix Experience 1 day Avalanche Awareness course lead by IFMGA mountain guide is running every Wednesday and Saturday through out the season. off piste skiing Chamonix

Early snow and lifts opening!

We have had a lot of snow already and very cold weather this last week. The whole of the Chamonix valley is looking very wintery and people have been skinning and skiing at Le Tour and the Grands Montets. It is actually really good. I have tried both areas the last few days. The below photos are from Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at Le Tour, Grands Montets and Argentiere village.

The Grands Montets will partly open this Saturday and Sunday (29th & 30th) and will hopefully from now on be open every weekend. Come and join us for an early ski!

Snow in Chamonix 29th of October!

It is snowing outside our office window in Argentiere in the Chamonix valley! I just went for a drive up to Le Tour (1450m) and took these photos and according to the Compagnie du Mont Blanc website there is 40cm of fresh snow at the Aiguille du Midi (3842m). Winter is definitely on its way!

With that in mind you should take a look at Chamonix Experience winter activities. We will continue with our 6 day Off Piste Course, which has proved successful over the years. This all-inclusive course is an ideal start for you who are in the beginning off your off piste career and want to learn better technique and mountain safety and experience some world class off-piste skiing.
New this year is our Winter Mountaineering course, also all-inclusive, which consists of six days of ice climbing, mixed climbing and mountain awareness in Chamonix and its surroundings.
Some more news to check out is our 2 day Vallee Blanche itinerary, two days guided off piste skiing and an overnight in a high mountain refuge. And for you who would like to venture further in the backcountry we have some great trips and ideas. Check out the Bernese Oberland ski tour! No more demanding than the Haute Route but so much quieter. We also have a general Ski Touring page that will give you some inspiration and ideas of other areas in the Alps that offer fantastic ski touring.

Ski Tour Bernese Oberland

New in our programme for winter 2009 is the Ski Tour of the Western Bernese Oberland. This tour is much quieter than the famous Haute Route, the huts are very good quality and the scenery amazing!
