Big days in the mountains start early: 8 am RV at the Aiguille du Midi lift in Chamonix. It is early February and already busy with mainly skiers and a few climbers buzzing with excitement about the day ahead.

We started the day by skiing a variation of the Valley Blanche called the Petit Envers and managed to find some nice snow that was still untracked. (more…)

Ski Touring La Floria - 08/02/2008

Opposite Mont Blanc is the Aiguilles Rouges with many ski touring possibilities. Slightly lower and less glaciated but nevertheless challenging.

The Chamonix Experience Off-Piste Course last week spent one of the days skiing fresh powder on the Vallee Blanche. Thanks to a fair amount of snow early season the arete (the ridge) has been equipped early this year. This makes makes access a lot easier and safer.

Winter Mountaineering in Chamonix

New this year is the Chamonix Experience Winter Mountaineering course. There are lots of possibilities for mountaineering in the Mont Blanc range even  in winter. There are many frozen waterfalls in the valley that can be great in cold temperatures. With all lifts open you also have relatively easy access to many high mountain routes.

Here are a few photos from the Contamine-Mazeaud route on the Triangle du Tacul, AD+ 350m. A great route when in good condition and not that technically demanding. However you might need a bit of courage and stamina.

Mont Blanc summer 2007

The climbing season for Mont Blanc starts in the middle of June. From then on, until the end of September Chamonix Experience had about 113 climbers doing a 6 day Mont Blanc course with us. Despite some bad weather in summer 2007, our groups managed to do a lot of great mountaineering and have a good time. Here is a small selection of photos.
