Traverse of the Vallee Blanche

Chamonix Experience’s Mont Blanc weeks often do the traverse of the Vallee Blanche as preparation for the ascent of Mont Blanc but it can also be done as a one-day outing. It is one of the most spectacular glacier treks of the Alps and great introduction to the high alpine environment. Accompanied by a high-mountain guide, it is an mountaineering adventure accessible even for the novice alpinist.

We take the cable car to the Aiguille du Midi and continue across to the Italian side with the little “Panoramic” gondola. That journey in itself is a breathtaking experience as you are looking down on the gaping holes and towering seracs of the landscape that you are about to walk through.  Arriving at Helbronner on the Italian side you have time for a coffee, Italian-style,  at the little café at the top before heading out on the glacier.

For a glacier trek like this you need proper mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axe and harness. All items can be hired and your guide will show you how to use it and how to rope up for safety. You need to bring a picnic as you are out for the whole day.

As you can tell from the photos, it is a very impressive landscape that you are walking through and you are surrounded by famous peaks like Mont Blanc, Mont Blanc du Tacul, Tour Ronde and Grand Capucin.

Off-Piste Course 02-07/03: Vallee Blanche and Vallee Noire

The Off-Piste Workshop skiers had two more fun- and sun-filled days with they did both the Vallee Blanche and the Vallee Noire. The Vallee Blanche follows the traditional route from l’Aiguille du Midi while the Vallee Noire starts on the Italian side. Both finish on the Mer de Glace.

Some photos from l’Aiguille du Midi, after a cheeky espresso at the Chambre 9:
