Chamonix Off Piste with CHAMEX'PLORE

3 days of off-piste riding with our UIAGM qualified ski guide around the Chamonix Valley

This course has been designed to take you on the best backcountry runs around Chamonix. Your Chamex mountain guide will choose the best terrain for your level and find you the very best snow conditions in the valley. You have to be an expert rider with a taste for adventure to enjoy this 3 day off-piste experience.

Chamonix has 4 main ski areas; Brevent, Flegere, Les Grand Montets and Le Tour. All of which have fantastic off-piste terrain full of hidden powder stashes, secret couloirs, steep descents and deep snow - our mountain guides will take you to their favourite runs as well as Chamonix classics such as the Pas de Chevre, the ENSA couloir, the Rognon glacier and, of course, the world famous Vallee Blanche.

Depending on weather conditions we might take a trip through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Courmayeur in Italy, where there is excellent off-piste and glacial terrain - as well as excellent pizza and wine...

This group is open to skiers, snowboaders and telemarkers - you must be an experienced off-piste rider, comfortable riding all snow conditions at a good pace.

If you are not confident enough to join this group then have a look at our Chamonix Off-Piste Introduction Course and our Early Season Off-Piste Ski Clinic to brush up on all the essential off-piste skills as well as avalanche awareness and mountain safety.

Your Chamex mountain guide will check your equipment and answer any questions that you might have. Please take a look at the Equipment tab to see what you will need and contact us if there is anything that you don't have.

The itinerary will change according to the weather and snow conditions but here is a possible itinerary for the 3 days:

Day 1 - Les Grands Montets

We head up to the Argentiere end of the Chamonix Valley and take the lift up to Les Grands Montets. Your mountain guide will spend a little time assessing your ski level and seeing what you are capable of on different types of snow, before running through the basics of mountain saftey and avalanche awaress. The rest of the day will be spent playing in the fantastic powder bowls and long descents of Les Grands Montets; if you're lucky your guide might even take you into the Magic Forest... If conditions are good we'll end the day with a classic Chamonix off-piste descent; skiing down all the way from Les Grands Montets to the Mer de Glace via the famous "Pas de chèvre" route.

Day 2 - Aiguille du Midi & Vallee Blanche

Today we take the Aiguille du Midi cable car up to 3842m, where we have a multitude of options.

We could ski the Pré du Rocher from the Plan de l'Aiguille station, where we'll find steep couloirs hidden amongst the trees.

Or we can ski one of the various routes down the legendary Vallee Blanche - the Gros Rognon perhaps, or the Petit Plan de l'Envers. Whichever one we take you'll be surrounded by the towering peaks of the Mont Blanc Massif, bottomless crevasses and stunning ice falls.

Day 3 - Italy & Glacier Toule

Today we cross over to the Italian side of Mont Blanc via the Glacier Toule. Here you'll find excellent off-piste terrain as well as spectacular views and wonderful Italian coffee!

We'll end our day by skiing the Vallée Noire back down to Chamonix, where we can celebrate our trip with a bit of apres-ski in one of the many lively bars.

Le Pas de Chèvre

Img-20160308-wa0002-01

Leif_and_laura_skiing_getting_fresh_tracks_on_the_vallee_blanche_photo_-_yves

The Petit Envers du Plan is a truly fun variation of the classic Vallee Blanche descent. It combines some interesting steeper sections with easy angled slopes to give your legs a little rest.

You will pass through labyrinths of magical glacier formations, deep crevasses and huge seracs amongst the towering peaks of the Mont Blanc Massif.

The Petit Envers du Plan is slightly more demanding than the classic Vallee Blanche route and requires good off-piste technique. If you're unsure of your skill level then consider spending a day beforehand with one of our UIAGM mountain guides to assess your skiing and practise all the techniques required to ski safely on glacial off-piste terrain.
