Summer Mountain Activities Chamonix

Five days of five different mountain activities scheduled Monday - Friday. Each day our UIAGM guides will either show you the ropes, climb rock or ice, or explore high alpine snow and glaciers. Chamonix offers rapid access to high altitude glaciers, good rock climbing and via ferrata. All of these activities are complimented with amazing views. Each day Chamex runs a separate trip. Participants can book until the evening before each day’s outing, to enjoy the adventure, education, and emotion.

Thursday

Mer de Glace Ice climbing

One of Chamonix’s most classic mountain days. Learn to use crampons and ice tools on glacier ice . Many of best alpinists sharpened (and continue to practice) their skills here. A unique experience in a frozen world. The Montenvers train takes us to the Montenvers Hotel/ train station. From here a short gondola ride and many steps access the terminal end of the glacier. There is also a via cordata that allows access to more adventurous participants. From here we trek up the glacier and find the “Moulins”- large ice walls carved by running summer melt water. We’re going to climb these walls!!

Glacier Trekking from the Skyway lift

We will take the world famous Aiguille du Midi cable car to the top of the Aiguille du Midi. From here we traverse the Vallé Blanche via the ultra-scenic Hellbronner cable cars- suspended above vast alpine glaciers and surrounded by Chamonix’s tallest, steepest peaks.

Upon arriving on the other (Italian) side of the Vallé Blanche, we access the glaciers via an elevator and a short walk. Voila! We’re on the snow, and will do some high altitude glacier trekking with the guide. Ropes and harnesses for safe glacier travel, and under the careful supervision of our UIAGM guides, you’re mountaineering in high altitude! An italian espresso keeps energy levels high before an unforgettable cable car return to Chamonix.

Via ferrata routes were pioneered in the Dolomites, and, while initially for the transport of commerce (not always legally!) and strategic wartime movement , Via Ferrata routes are an accessible way to experience vertical terrain. Sometimes physical - always exciting. Suspended bridges, cable hangs, and steep ladders await the adventurer. Chamonix and the surrounding area offer interesting and exciting routes.

Very short climbs without the rope- using gymnastic mattresses to soften the falls. and Chamonix has some amazing spots. The Col des Montets above Argentiere has amazing views, great boulders of all size and shapes, and is the lovely Aiguilles Rouges wilderness preserve. Other areas include the shaded boulders in the Bossons  village below Chamonix, and the magical woods in Médonnet, above Sallanches. Jumps, climbs, amazing places…
