AIARE AVALANCHE RESCUE COURSE

This one-day course will teach the basics as well as advanced techniques of companion rescue in realistic avalanche scenarios. 

AIARE Avalanche Rescue course is essential and recommended to re-take at the beginning of every winter season to refresh these life-saving rescue skills. 

The course is thought by UIAGM mountain guides and qualified AIARE leaders. You will spend the day outdoors practicing different rescue techniques for varied avalanche scenarios. Each participant will receive a rescue card acknowledging completion date at the end of the course. This course is obligatory for those who wish to take the AIARE 2 or PRO 1 courses. 

Description

Course objectives:

  • Knowledge of what to do if caught in avalanche or if witnessing others being caught in avalanche.
  • To organize and lead a recue team in case of an avalanche accident
  • To be able to search for victims quickly and efficiently using the correct equipment
  • To be able to set up realistic scenario for practice of the avalanche search and rescue
  • To be able to develop a training plan to continuously improve the search and rescue skills 

 

Level requirements:

The Avalanche Rescue Course is designed to be an introduction to the search and rescue training as well as a refresher course for experienced skiers. This course is also a prerequisite for the PRO courses.

You will use the ski touring / splitboarding equipment on the course. You do not have to have a profound ski touring experience but you need to know how to use the equipment and be able to go for a short walk.

Office Support

Our team is based at the foot of the Aiguille du Midi cable car and will be happy to help you with any questions you may have before, during or after your trip to Chamonix.

Food & Drink

The price does not include lunch or snacks. You can bring your own food and we can stop for a picnic, or there may be the option to buy lunch at a mountain hut. Please make sure that you are carrying sufficient water and snacks as we will be in the mountains for a number of hours.
