The Chamonix Off-Piste Ski Day was created especially for indivudals short on time but big on adventure. You can still do some awesome skiing or snowboarding in just one day; each of the Chamonix ski areas at Le Tour, Brevent, La Flegere and Grands Montets have many hidden runs and secret couloirs to discover. You can read more about these on our ski blog.

Our UIAGM qualified mountain guides know the Chamonix valley inside-out, they'll take you to their favourite places and use their local locknowledge of the mountains to find you the best snow out there! Furthermore, the Vallee Blanche offers a variety of great off-piste descents from the classic route to the Grand Envers, there is plenty to fill a day with incredible experiences.

We'll start bright and early to fit as much into the day as possible! You'll meet your mountain guide at 08:30 at a pre-determined location; your guide will check that you have the correct equipment and provide you with any extra safety equipment you will need. Take a look at the Equipment tab to see what you'll need and let us know in advance if there is anything that you do not have.

We'll get on the ski lift before the crowds arrive and the whole day will be spent on the mountain, exploring the Chamonix backcountry and enjoying as much off-piste skiing as we can fit into one day. The day ends when the lifts close around 16:30.

Then it's time to discover that other classic Chamonix experience... apres-ski!

Itinerary

Meeting in the morning at the lift station. We will inform you by an email on the evening the day before as where we will go skiing that day – where the snow is best!

Below are a few examples of the off-piste offered at each of the Chamonix ski areas:

Grands Montets

With more than 2000m vertical drop from the top station to the bottom, the Grands Montets offers an incredible variety of world-class off-piste skiing. From the infamous ‘Pas de Chèvre’ for the more advanced skier to the fantastically easily accessible ‘Combe des Blanchots’ between the two main chair lifts and the Lavancher Bowl there are endless hours of fun to be had.

Le Brévent

Here you can really get away from groomed piste to truly mountainous terrain in just a few turns. There is a great selection of superb technical itineraries here, including the ‘ENSA couloir’ and the ‘Bellin couloir’. For the novices there is great fun to be had on the ‘Hotel Face’ and around the ‘Col Cornu’ area.

La Flégère

This is a great area for newcomers to backcountry skiing. South-facing with wide open slopes, the ‘Crochues Bowl’ alone can offer hours of fun in the backcountry. The terrain is full of variety with couloirs and rollovers to keep you entertained. This side of the valley gives fantastic views of the Grandes Jorasses and the Mont Blanc Massif.

Le Tour & Vallorcine

Overlooking the Swiss border on one side and towards Chamonix on the other, this area is brilliant for backcountry beginners. The south side has mellow rolling hills, a perfect introduction, while the back side offers fun runs through slightly steeper terrain. There are several great itineraries that take you down into Switzerland where you can sample the great chocolate and Valais wine while waiting for the bus back!

Courmayeur

An day out skiing off the beaten path in Italy is a real treat. From the Hellbronner side there are brilliant runs for the advanced skier on the Toule glacier. The main Courmayeur ski station gives access to great runs down to Val Veny through beautiful larch forests. Longer runs are accessible from the Youla and Arpe lifts. You get great views of Mont Blanc’s spectacular north face from here, not to mention great coffee and food!

Level Requirements

The Chamonix Off-Piste Day is for experienced off-piste skiers and snowboarders.

You must be able to put down a reasonable set of tracks in powder, and be able to adapt your technique to cope with difficult snow conditions – eg. heavy wet snow, crusts, poor visibility or 40dg slopes – can all still cause problems (though you can cope with them safely, if not elegantly!)
