Snow in Chamonix 29th of October!

It is snowing outside our office window in Argentiere in the Chamonix valley! I just went for a drive up to Le Tour (1450m) and took these photos and according to the Compagnie du Mont Blanc website there is 40cm of fresh snow at the Aiguille du Midi (3842m). Winter is definitely on its way!

With that in mind you should take a look at Chamonix Experience winter activities. We will continue with our 6 day Off Piste Course, which has proved successful over the years. This all-inclusive course is an ideal start for you who are in the beginning off your off piste career and want to learn better technique and mountain safety and experience some world class off-piste skiing.
New this year is our Winter Mountaineering course, also all-inclusive, which consists of six days of ice climbing, mixed climbing and mountain awareness in Chamonix and its surroundings.
Some more news to check out is our 2 day Vallee Blanche itinerary, two days guided off piste skiing and an overnight in a high mountain refuge. And for you who would like to venture further in the backcountry we have some great trips and ideas. Check out the Bernese Oberland ski tour! No more demanding than the Haute Route but so much quieter. We also have a general Ski Touring page that will give you some inspiration and ideas of other areas in the Alps that offer fantastic ski touring.

Les Aiguilles Rouges in the Chamonix valley has a lot of great rock climbing. We set off to do one of the old classic routes, the Chapelle de la Gliere. It is easily graded with most pitches being around 4 and 5 but it has got a real “big mountain feel” to it  (more…)

Mont Blanc 15th of July

We had three strong climbers, Sean, Rachel and Richard and two Chamonix Experience guides, Jerome and Julien who all climbed Mont Blanc together on the 15th and 16th of July. The stable weather and the physical strength of the group allowed them to do the summit attempt in a slightly different way than normal. They went all the way from the Tramway at Nid d’Aigle, 2372m, past the Gouter hut and straight up to the summit of Mont Blanc 4807m, in one day to then return to the Gouter hut in the evening for a good sleep.

Ski Tour Bernese Oberland

New in our programme for winter 2009 is the Ski Tour of the Western Bernese Oberland. This tour is much quieter than the famous Haute Route, the huts are very good quality and the scenery amazing! It is equally as challenging as the Haute Route, therefore some previous ski touring experience is required to join this trip. (more…)
