Eiger Ascent with UIAGM Mountain Guide | Mittellegi Ridge Climb
Eiger Ascent with UIAGM Mountain Guide via the Mittellegi Ridge
Experience the legendary Eiger ascent with a UIAGM mountain guide, following one of the most iconic alpine routes in Europe — the Mittellegi Ridge. Located in the breathtaking Bernese Oberland, the Eiger stands as a true symbol of alpine challenge and adventure. The Mittellegi is the east ridge of the Eiger, stretching from Ostegg (2709 m) to the summit. It is the longest and arguably the most spectacular ridge on the mountain, first climbed in 1921.
Climbing the Eiger via the Mittellegi Ridge offers unbeatable views: to the south, the lush green valley of Grindelwald, and to the north, the towering shadow of the Eiger’s North Face. Much of the route follows the sharp crest of the ridge, combining limestone rock, snow, and ice. You’ll spend one night in the Mittellegi Hut, a remote alpine refuge nestled among the dramatic peaks of the region — a true highlight of the experience.
This Eiger ascent with a UIAGM guide is a demanding but deeply rewarding climb. It’s suited for mountaineers with prior alpine experience, ideally those who have completed our Matterhorn Course, Alpine Climbing Course, or a private preparation course. The climb is done over two days, with one night spent in the hut. We maintain a strict 1:1 client-to-guide ratio to ensure maximum safety and a fully personalized experience.
The Eiger season typically runs from mid-July to mid-September, though conditions can occasionally be favorable from early July. Since alpine conditions vary, we recommend contacting us in advance — our guides will check the latest forecasts and advise on the best window for your guided Eiger ascent.

Itinerary
Day 1: Drive to Grindelwald & Hike to Mittellegihütte
Your guide will meet you in the morning and drive with you to Grindelwald. From Grindelwald you will take a train up to Eismeer station, the train trip is pretty scenic and passes through tunnels that were carved into the Eiger mountain. The hike from Eismeer station to Mittellegihütte takes about 2.5 hours and passes over some rocky scrambling terrain with some passages on the Fieschergletscher glacier. You will spend the night in the hut before climbing the Eiger tomorrow.
Day 2: Ascent of the Eiger
Today is the big day! We usually do our ascents via the Mittellegi ridge which is the most spectacular. The climb is 615m over rock and mixed terrain of up to 5b. If the conditions are not good for the ridge, we will choose another route – such as the classic South Ridge (AD or III). These itineraries are not technically very difficult, but they involve a full day of scrambling over tricky terrain where you have to stay well focused. You will travel back to Chamonix at the end of today, where the course will finish over a well deserved glass of beer.
