Guided ascent of Monte Rosa and Mont Blanc

Monte Rosa has been explored by pioneering geologists and explorers, including Leonardo da Vinci in the late 15th century and Horace-Bénédict de Saussure in the 18th century. After numerous attempts, its summit, originally known as Höchste Spitze, was first reached in 1855 by a party of eight climbers from Zermatt. The first recorded ascent of Mont Blanc occurred much earlier, on 8 August 1786, led by Jacques Balmat and Dr. Michel Paccard, marking the start of modern mountaineering.

Our Monte Rosa Mont Blanc course combines the two worlds of Italian and French mountaineering traditions, offering a unique alpine experience.

The first part of the course focuses on classic Italian-style mountaineering, where you’ll enjoy comfortable huts and delicious meals. In the Monte Rosa area, you’ll have easy access to high alpine glaciers and snow terrain, thanks to local lifts and huts. For the first two days, we’ll use the Staffal lift and base ourselves at either the Gnifetti (3647m) or Mantova hut (3498m) for acclimatisation and training in crampon and ice axe skills. Sleeping above 3000m will aid your acclimatisation process. During this time, you’ll summit an introductory 4000m peak, such as Pyramid Vincent (4215m), Zumsteinspitze (4563m), Parrotspitze (4432m), or Ludwigshohe (4341m). These climbs will enhance your acclimatisation and test your crampon skills.

Day 3 will be flexible, allowing your guide to focus on any specific skills or techniques that need improvement.

The final three days will be dedicated to summiting Mont Blanc via the Normal Route. This route, also known as the ‘Gouter’ or ‘Bosses’ ridge, begins with a steep rock climb to the Aiguille du Gouter, followed by a steady ascent on snow slopes and a final, steeper arête to the summit. It’s the least technical route on Mont Blanc, graded alpine PD. You can expect to encounter scrambling on exposed ridges and steep, exposed passages on snow and ice at high altitude. Ropes, crampons, and an ice axe will be used throughout the climb.
