Our ski touring courses in Chamonix are designed for all levels — from complete beginners to experienced skiers seeking advanced objectives. Set in the heart of the Mont Blanc massif, these backcountry ski courses combine practical ski touring instruction with real alpine adventure.
Led by certified UIAGM mountain guides, you’ll develop essential backcountry safety skills, including avalanche awareness, route planning, skinning techniques, and efficient uphill travel. Whether you’re looking to explore classic Chamonix terrain or prepare for hut-to-hut ski tours, our ski touring and ski mountaineering courses provide the technical foundation and mountain confidence needed to safely enjoy the backcountry.
Beginner
You have experience backcountry or side country skiing/ snowboarding. You can descend in various snow types, without falling (excessively…) or stopping. You’re comfortable on slopes up to 35°. You have little or no ski touring experience.
Intermediate
You are a confident off-piste skier in all snow conditions. You’re comfortable on slopes of up to 35°. You have practiced companion rescue, and are familiar with basic traveling methods in avalanche-prone terrain. You have already done some ski touring, and are somewhat familiar with the equipment and the techniques used (skins, touring bindings, ski crampons, kick turns).
Advanced
You regularly practice backcountry skiing and have a solid repetoire. You ski confidently in all types of backcountry snow, and are comfortable in couloirs (gullies) up to 35°. You’d like to improve by learning the methods of ski alpinism – climbing couloirs with an ice axe and crampons – skis on the backpack, skiing longer and more committing itineraries.
