Master Backcountry Touring & Avalanche Safety
This course doesn’t just take you riding — it teaches you critical backcountry touring skills and avalanche safety techniques.
Ride Legendary Terrain in the Heart of the Alps
Chamonix is one of the world’s most iconic alpine destinations. From glacier descents like the Vallée Blanche to hidden powder stashes in the Aiguilles Rouges, every day offers a new and unforgettable mountain objective.

What to Expect on Your Chamonix Splitboard Course

Discover the backcountry on a snowboard with our Chamonix Splitboard Course — a 5-day touring and freeride experience designed for advanced riders looking to explore legendary alpine terrain beyond the ski lifts.

Splitboarding is the ultimate way to access untouched snow and high alpine zones. The splitboard functions like a regular snowboard on descents but separates into skis for the climb, allowing efficient uphill travel without the need for snowshoes.

If you’ve always dreamed of exploring the backcountry on a snowboard, this course is your gateway. With expert backcountry touring instruction and hands-on avalanche safety training, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to travel safely and independently in the mountains.

Ride Classic Chamonix Terrain

During this touring and freeride week in Chamonix, you’ll ride some of the valley’s most iconic splitboard routes:

  • Col du Passon at Les Grands Montets
  • The Crochues-Bérard traverse through the Aiguilles Rouges
  • Col d’Entrèves from the Vallée Blanche
  • And many more, chosen based on conditions and group ability. Check our Chamonix Backcountry Guide for more ideas.

You’ll learn efficient skinning techniques, transitions, terrain management, and how to make the most of the descent.

Build Your Backcountry Skills

Throughout the course, we focus on backcountry safety training, including:

  • Avalanche awareness and rescue drills
  • Route planning and risk management
  • Glacier travel basics and crevasse avoidance
  • Reading terrain and using slope gradient to your advantage

Our certified UIAGM mountain guides are also experienced snowboard instructors, offering tips to refine your technique and style in challenging snow conditions. For more in-depth safety training, check out our Avalanche Safety Level 1 course, which covers avalanche science in detail. We also offer a 1-day Crevasse Rescue Course for focused, hands-on rescue skills.

Prepare for Bigger Adventures

By the end of the week, you’ll be ready to take on longer and more demanding tours such as the Tour des Cerces, theSilvretta Traverse, or the Grand Saint Bernard Tour — all excellent options for splitboarders. You’ll also be well prepared for hut-to-hut splitboarding adventures with a private guide. This course provides the ideal foundation for any rider looking to progress into multi-day backcountry touring.

Who Is This Course For?

Our Chamonix Splitboard Course is for experienced snowboarders who are:

  • Comfortable riding off-piste in variable snow
  • Physically fit enough for 6–8 hours of daily touring

Whether you’re new to splitboarding or looking to upgrade your backcountry skills, this course offers a full immersion into high-mountain freeride touring in one of the world’s most iconic alpine environments.
