Chamonix Trad Climbing Course – Your Introduction to Alpine Trad Climbing

Our Chamonix Trad Climbing Course is the perfect way to start traditional climbing in a world-class alpine environment. Designed for climbers who are new to trad or want to build confidence placing protection and climbing multi-pitch granite routes, this four-day course offers expert instruction and unforgettable mountain experiences.

What You Will Learn

During the course, you’ll master essential trad climbing skills, including:

  • Crack and slab climbing techniques

  • Gear placement and anchor building

  • Rope management and multi-pitch climbing systems

  • Efficient movement on granite routes

Under the guidance of experienced UIAGM-certified mountain guides, you’ll gain the knowledge and confidence needed for independent trad climbing, whether your future goals are in Chamonix, Yosemite, or other alpine destinations.

Course Base – Argentière Hut

If weather permits, the course will based at the beautifully renovated Argentière Hut (2,771 m), perched above the Argentière Glacier. This high-mountain refuge offers breathtaking views of iconic peaks, including the Aiguille Verte and Mont Dolent. Run by the welcoming Fred and Bea, the hut is a favorite gathering place for climbers and a fantastic base for alpine climbing adventures.

Reaching the hut is an experience in itself: after taking the Grands Montets cable car, you’ll hike up and cross the Argentiere Glacier before another short hike up to the hut. Once there, you’ll have time to settle in and enjoy an afternoon climbing session nearby.

If the weather prevents climbing at the Argentière Hut, we will take you to an alternative trad climbing location. The region offers many stunning trad climbing routes nearby, including excellent options in Italy and Switzerland.

Throughout the Chamonix Trad Climbing Course, you’ll climb classic granite routes, with options for all levels. The rock quality is exceptional, and the variety of climbs makes it an ideal learning ground for trad.

Join us for a transformative introduction to trad climbing in the heart of the Alps!
