MULTI-DAY HIKE IN CHAMONIX WITH A 3000M SUMMIT
AUTHENTIC ALPINE TREK WITH MOUNTAIN REFUGE STAYS
WILDLIFE & SCENIC TRAILS IN THE AIGUILLES ROUGES
MONT BUET & LES AIGUILLES ROUGES
This multi-day hike in Chamonix takes you deep into the stunning Aiguilles Rouges Nature Reserve, with two nights in authentic mountain refuges for a true alpine experience.
Starting from the charming village of Servoz, at the southern end of the Chamonix Valley, the trail winds through traditional hamlets and pastoral farmland before leading into a more rugged, untouched landscape. Your first night is spent at Refuge Moëde Anterne, perfectly positioned beneath the dramatic Rocher des Fiz. Arrive in time to enjoy a drink on the terrace while soaking in panoramic mountain views. Originally built in 1898, the historic refuge still stands nearby, adding to the character of this unique location.
On day two, the route crosses from the Réserve de Passy towards the Col de Salenton, following a peaceful and remote alpine valley. Along the way, you’ll pass the ancient ruins of the Chalets d’Écuelle, a reminder of the region’s pastoral history. From the col, you have the option to summit Mont Buet (3096m hike), one of the most iconic viewpoints in the Alps. First climbed in 1770, Mont Buet played a key role in early geological and cartographic exploration. After reaching the summit, a scenic descent leads to the Refuge de la Pierre à Bérard, set in a wild and secluded valley beneath towering rock faces.
The final day follows the Vallon de Bérard, descending alongside a winding stream to the impressive Cascade de Bérard. The trail then climbs towards La Flégère via the Col des Montets, passing the alpine lakes of Les Chéserys and the famous Lac Blanc. This spectacular high-altitude lake offers some of the best views of the Mont Blanc massif, with perfect reflections on clear days. A short descent brings you to the lift station at La Flégère and down to Les Praz, marking the end of your journey.
This Mont Buet 3096m hike is also one of the best routes in the region for spotting alpine wildlife. Thanks to its remote setting, away from busy lift systems, you have a strong chance of seeing marmots, chamois, and a variety of birdlife. Evenings at the refuges are perfect for wildlife watching—don’t forget your binoculars.
Accommodation is in traditional mountain refuges: comfortable, welcoming, and full of alpine charm—offering an authentic and memorable trekking experience in the heart of the French Alps.
