Eiger Climbing Course from Chamonix with UIAGM Mountain Guide

Join us for a 6-day guided Eiger climbing course starting in Chamonix, designed for experienced alpinists ready to tackle one of the most iconic summits in the Alps — the Eiger (3,970 m). This course offers a complete alpine training and acclimatisation program in the Mont Blanc massif, followed by the spectacular Eiger ascent via the Mittellegi Ridge, led by a certified UIAGM/IFMGA mountain guide.

The Eiger – A Peak Steeped in Alpine History

Located in the Bernese Oberland, the Eiger is part of the famous alpine trio: Jungfrau (4,158 m), Mönch (4,107 m) and Eiger (3,970 m). While not the tallest, the Eiger is certainly the most feared and admired, especially for its notorious North Face — the “Mordwand”.
The first ascent of the Eiger was achieved in 1858 by Christian Almer, Peter Bohren, and Charles Barrington, via the western flank. The Mittellegi Ridge, your route on this course, was first climbed in 1921 and remains one of the most scenic and committing alpine ridges in Europe.

The Eiger has captured the imagination of climbers and storytellers for decades. From “The White Spider” to “Eiger Dreams”, and the classic film “The Eiger Sanction”, this mountain has long been a symbol of bold alpine adventure. Now it’s your turn!

Course Overview: 6 Days of Alpine Climbing Progression

Day 0 – Welcome Briefing in Chamonix
Meet your mountain guide at the Chamonix Experience office for a course briefing and gear check.

Days 1–4: Training & Acclimatisation in Chamonix
Prepare for your Eiger climb with 4 days of hands-on training, including:

  • Multi-pitch rock climbing in Les Aiguilles Rouges or Plan de l’Aiguille
  • Rock climbing in mountaineering boots skills
  • Ice axe and crampons refresher
  • Acclimatisation climbs of classic peaks such as Aiguille du Moine (3,412 m), Aiguille du Peigne (3,192 m)

These days are designed to build confidence and technical competence on rock and snow, while ensuring you are fully acclimatised to high altitude before the Eiger summit push.

Day 5: Travel to Grindelwald & Hike to Mittellegihütte (3,355 m)
Transfer to Grindelwald, Switzerland, and hike to the Mittellegihütte, perched dramatically on the ridge. This hut night is key for resting and acclimatising before the summit day.

Day 6: Summit Day – Ascent of the Eiger (3,970 m)
Climb the Eiger via the Mittellegi Ridge, an exposed and technical route graded AD / IV+ to 5b. The ridge offers 610 m of climbing on steep, mixed terrain. You’ll use ropes, protection, and alpine climbing techniques under the guidance of your 1:1 private guide.

Group Size & Guide Ratio

We maintain small group sizes for safety, quality instruction, and personalised progression:

  • Day 1: 3 clients per guide
  • Days 2–4: 2 clients per guide
  • Days 5–6 (Eiger ascent): 1 client per guide

This ratio ensures you get maximum guide attention, especially on the technical summit day.
